“Be the light” is such a powerful message, and it resonates deeply because we all know that walking in the light, especially in a world that sometimes feels overwhelming, isn’t always easy. But that’s exactly what makes it so meaningful.
I’m reminded of Matthew 5:14-16, where Jesus says, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” That’s a call to each of us—not just when it’s easy, but especially when it’s hard.
There are moments when we feel like our light is flickering, when life’s challenges wear us down. We may feel like we’re not enough, or that we don’t have the strength to keep shining. But the truth is, the light doesn’t come from us; it’s the light of Christ shining through us. We’re just vessels, and God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness.
And this is where it’s okay to admit, “I know it’s hard.” Sometimes the struggles in life feel overwhelming, whether it’s the pressures of daily life, difficult circumstances, or even the feeling of isolation in a crowd. But we must remember—God has not called us to walk this journey alone. He’s with us every step of the way, and He places people in our path to encourage us when we feel dim.
We can draw on these moments to remind ourselves that, while being the light isn’t always easy, it’s always worth it. Every time we reflect God’s goodness, even in small ways—through kindness, patience, forgiveness, or faithfulness—we are pushing back the darkness in the world and pointing people to Jesus.
And if you’re saying this to yourself too, that’s okay. It’s okay to need that reminder. Even Paul wrote about struggling, saying he didn’t always do what he wanted to do, but he kept pressing on (Romans 7:19). The important thing is that we don’t give up. We trust that God’s grace is sufficient, and His power is made perfect in our weakness.
So keep shining, even when it’s hard.
